Da-duh Reading Response

In the short story, Da-duh, there is a full and complete plot that could be sorted onto a plot map. So, starting things off, the exposition. This part of the story is above the title where a small paragraph is labeled as "Background"; the exposition is also all of the information on pages 57-59. After the exposition, there is a long rising action period. This lasts for almost 3 pages and consists of Da-duh showing the main character how great her life is and then belittling her after asking her if new York has this, and the main character always says no. But then Da-duh starts asking the main character about New York, and they start to bond. While all of this is happening, Da-duh is bringing the main character to these quiet places in the canes. But the climax comes into play when Da-duh shows the main character her favorite spot in the canes, and what she believed to be the tallest thing that she ever saw. But when she asked the main character if there was anything taller than this in New York, she starts to talk about the Empire State Building and just completely shoots Da-duh down. This leads to tension and Da-duh becoming depressed, which leads readers to the next part: the falling action.

The falling action of this story consists of the main character describing how upset and depressed Da-duh is after realizing the greatest place in her town is nothing compared to New York. Da-duh just sits in her chair all day until noon, when she goes for a quick walk in the canes. But the narrator describes Da-duh as not enjoying walking through the canes as she used to. After all of this, the resolution is brought into the end of the story. The resolution is the main character realizing that    Da-duh died, and she might have been the reason for this. Da-duh was found dead in her chair after her entire village fled into the canes because the British had sent attack planes to their village. Yet Da-duh remained in her chair, and the rest of the village lived.
