Reading Response ATDPTI

This book is pretty interesting. Many things have happened leading up to page 101. First off, we learned about the Spirit family. We learned about life on the rez, about Rowdy, and Arnold's poverty-stricken family. That's just the first few chapters. So, Junior/Arnold is an Indian that lives on a reservation. He only has on friend, named Rowdy, who was like a bully. Rowdy was also very emotional. So, after starting high school, Arnold gets mad, throws a book at his teacher, and gets suspended. The teacher comes by later and tells Arnold he has to get out of here, get off the rez, and go be something. So, Arnold goes to a school in the white town nearby.

This school, called Rearden, is full of white kids who don't like Indians. Some of the bigger kids try to pick on Arnold and he punches them. But after the biggest guy in school goes, "He just punched me!?!?" Arnold realizes life on the rez is way more different than life in Rearden. So, Arnold also has conflicts at home. First off, everyone calls him "trader", or "white lover", so on and so forth. Rowdy, his best friend, also turns on Arnold. So at this time, Arnold has no friends. But then Arnold meets Gordy. Because they were both smart, they started to bond. Gordy was a nerdy guy at Rearden who didn't really care about discrimination, so he saw Arnold just as another person. This is where page 101 ends.

Research Update

My research topic is pretty much "How bad were the Conquistadors to the Native Americans?" The main focuses of my research are Christopher Columbus, Hernan Cortes, Francisco Pizarro, and Las Casas de Bartolome. So, Christopher Columbus was the man who(probably)discovered the Americas. He treated the Natives in an odd way. He first screwed the Natives over by trading them pennies for land, essentially. Then Columbus made a "law" that prohibited unfair trading with the Natives. Even though this obviously didn't last, at least he tried. Hernan Cortes was a man who desired fame and fortune. So, he became an explorer and sought the city of gold. Cortes ended up finding the Aztecs, taking their riches, killing their leader, conquering the city of gold, and becoming very powerful. Francisco Pizarro was a man with a very interesting story. So, Pizarro was an explorer and eventually ended up sailing to the Americas with his partner, Almagro. Halfway through the journey

Analyzed Section: Piggy's Death(180-181) Right before Ralph hears the rock, while everyone is shouting and arguing, the narrator focuses on Piggy for a split second, saying "By him stood Piggy, holding out the talisman, the fragile, shining beauty of the shell." This sentence shows how in the midst of all the chaos and anger, the conch and all of its order is still there. But then after the conch is "shattered into thousands of tiny fragments", all of the peace and order was lost. And Piggy, the only one who still believed in the conch, had been destroyed just like the conch. Another thing to note right before Piggy's death is how personification is used when describing the boulder rolling down the mountain. The passage goes, "... and he flung himself flat while the tribe shrieked." This pronoun, (his), can be seen as the rock being the beast, or maybe the boulder is just being used like this for no reason. The final thing that will be analyze

Interesting Things in LOTF

While reading "Lord Of The Flies" , I have found some things that are very interesting and very puzzling. So, to start things off, the interesting things. Probably the most fascinating part of this book is how these boys managed to stay alive this long. These are just 12 and 6 year old boys who did things like sing in choirs before the crash. Another interesting thing is the way Jack is becoming crazy. I find it intriguing to read these chapters nd slowly watch him transform and only Piggy has really taken note of it. Now onto the puzzling things. By far the most puzzling part of the book is how Piggy is treated. He is the smartest kid there and is treated no better than the littluns. I do believe that he will eventually become valuable to everyone there, but so far he just gets bullied and people steal his ideas. The last thing I have to point out is how the "hunters" are all following Jack when trying to kill pigs, and only Simon and Ralph are doing important t
