Poetic elements in songs

Song: Umbrella, Jay Z and Rihanna, www.metrolyrics.com/umbrella-lyrics-rihanna.html

Alliteration: used in song to say "Good girl gone bad"; the g is repeated a lot.

Consonance: used in song to say "Jay, Rain" and "anticipation for precipitation"; the similar sounds are repeated.

Metaphor: "when the sun shines, we'll shine together"; this implies how close these two people are.

Assonance: the word "I" or "I'll" is a repeated vowel sound throughout the entire song.

Hyperbole: "told you I'll be here forever"; forever is an exaggeration used for emphasis on how long she will wait.

Imagery: "under my umbrella"; this just makes me imagine two people standing under an umbrella on a rainy day.

This song contains a large amount of poetic techniques, the most relevant being alliteration, consonance, metaphor, assonance, hyperbole, and imagery. Believe it or not, all of these are repeated multiple times throughout the song. Personally, I think this song would never have become as popular as it was if it weren't for all of these poetic elements, most importantly imagery.
